Via C7 vs Intel E2140

I got the Intel E2140 in one of the sub-$500 HP-Compaq machines. I got the Via C7 in the pc-1's pc2500e. I played with the Padlock encryption stuff. But the Via C7 with no hard drive or optical drive pulled in 43W of power. The HP-Compaq machine pulled in the same but was much faster. Padlock requires lots of recompiling to work, and the Intel machine is still fast enough to keep up with most streams of data.
