Drool List

Looks like Steve's Digicams rated DSC-P200 highly. I was looking for a pocketable camera with wide angle. I want to be able to zoom through the wide angle range. This eliminates the new dual CCD Kodak camera off the list.

I was also looking at a new GPS unit. None of them seem to emphasize adding a new street into the list. My house and my relative's houses are in new neighborhoods which don't have good street maps. So it would be nice to have a GPS system that could add things to it and make it map the same as everyone else. Perhaps a Wiki-GIS.

PC Magazine seems to have done a reasonable review of a bunch of GPS units. Lowrance iWAY 500C and TomTom GO 300 seem to have done well. It looks like MapQuest has started to market the TomTom under it's own brand.

If only someone would come up with a better way of settling the bill at the end of a large party dining out.

Package Management

There's too many things to learn about package management. Each system has its own commands. RedHat's rpm uses the rpm binary with oodles of options. My normal problem is to find files that belong to packages and list all the installed packages. Then, the BSDs have their pkg_info command. And Debian uses apt and dpkg. I remember researching all the flags to be able to query the package database, but I forget them.

Designing A Home Page

I think I'll have a news section from the blog. Then a more permanent collection of links. Pictures should also get a RSS feed. It's important to have most things editable on the web.

Maybe I'll just make my own software.
